Joel joined HB Wealth in January 2025 as a Principal after working with WMS Partners since June 2021. He is currently Managing Director, Investment Solutions and serves family office clients as a senior investment strategist. He and his team work closely with investment and advisory leadership to ensure HB’s investments are of the highest quality and delivered in an efficient manner. He provides oversight into the firm’s trading and portfolio management functions. He also oversees the firm’s investment policy statement (IPS) program.

While at WMS Partners, Joel was Chief Operating Officer of Investments and a Senior Financial Advisor. Prior to this, he managed a volatility hedge fund for Cicero Capital Partners from 2018 to 2020. Before Cicero Capital, he was managing director at Wells Fargo from 2010 to 2017, where he led the Specialty Finance equity research team. Before Wells Fargo, he worked at American Capital, Ltd. from 2008 to 2009 as managing director and incubated the firm’s first investment strategy around public investments. Before American Capital, he was at Wachovia Securities from 2002 to 2007 as managing director and head of Specialty Finance equity research. Prior to Wachovia, he was at A.G. Edwards & Sons from 1997 to 2002 as both an associate and senior analyst covering specialty finance stocks. Before A.G. Edwards, he was in commercial banking from 1991 to 1997 with PNC and Bank of America.

Joel has been quoted in numerous publications, including the Wall Street Journal, and has appeared on Bloomberg and CNBC. Joel has been recognized six times by the Wall Street Journal as a top five equity research analyst for stock selection.

Joel participates in volunteer events throughout the Mid-Atlantic and provides pro bono education around investments and financial planning to underserved individuals and families.

Joel earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics & Statistics from Miami University, Oxford, OH, and went on to receive his Master’s of Business Administration from Miami University, Oxford, OH. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professional, and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA). He is a member of the CFA Society – Baltimore.

In his spare time, Joel enjoys spending time with friends and family, including his wife and four adult children. He also enjoys playing golf and traveling.
